Well, it has been quite a long time since I've been back here. My apologies for the delay. The year to date has been beyond an insane juggle and experience but such is life and "people's is people's"... Hope to keep up a bit more in the near future.

That said, with SDCC just around the corner and plane flight away - lets get to it!

FIRST OFF:
As always, payments can be made with cash but this year we have CREDIT CARD ACCESS!

A FEW NEW UPDATES...

A ton has been in the works and here are a few I can release and hope to catch up on a bunch more as it goes in the coming months.

First off the bat - INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #500

Honored to be part of a HUGE collab issue. Javier Rodriguez is on color and I couldn't be more of a fan of my peers on this issue.

Advanced copies of STAY TUNED! arrived in the mail today. Printing turned out amazing. Can't wait for this thing to hit in the new year. It's already available for pre-order at chroniclebooks.com.

The London project is finally here as well and I'll have pics soon. Many thanks to Mr. Hopeless in advance for the expertise.

I am excited to leak (not really, more like hinting cuz I can't actually divulge any details yet...) an art installation that I'll be working on and installing later this fall somewhere in ?????? (overseas) and YOU can cast your vote and be part of the arts development. I am always up for collaboration and working in the moment and I wanted to see what kind of insanity we could make collaborating on a few of the characters that will be part of this installation. It's all kind of vague and mysterious, I know, but play along and you could easily walk away with some free art for you efforts. I will be posting the art's development as it develops and update here on the site and the FLUORESCENT BLACK fan page on facebook. So if you are interested & intrigued... cast your vote and voice your ideas as follows:

This post and request is two fold.

PART 1

Starting today I have created a poll at the top-right corner of this blog for everyone to vote on their favorite FLUORESCENT BLACK character. If you are familiar with FLUORESCENT BLACK, awesome, vote now. If you aren't, that's cool, I understand how it goes. But if that's the case you should IMMEDIATELY run out and read your buddies copy or pick up a copy of your very own at your local comic shop or online - HERE

Anyway,...

This installation project will be a bit of a rogues gallery of characters and homages to artist and influences I've had over the years when it's done. Along the way, one or two characters from FLUORESCENT BLACK will, inevitably, make their way into this thing - and YOU have a voice in which character or two I include in the installation by voting.

Vote for at least TWO of you favorite characters and the top two will make their way into the art. The polling ends on October 8th, the first day of the New York Comic Con, and I'll be drawing those two characters in artists alley for this project during the Con.

PART 2 - Character Requests!...

Laying out the design of this "installation", I wanted to get something original and unique into the mix character-wise and just recently received a request for an original print design if I was ever so inclined to do so. That got me thinking about this project and this experiment in character design. Over the years there have been a lot of amazingly random commission requests and emails like - "hey, what if you drew..." or "Man, I'd love to see you do..." That kind of "play" with character has resulted in some of the most fun design work I've done to date. So in the spirit of chaos and the unknown/untapped collaboration between strangers - that just yields FUN...

Post your ideas & requests for characters that you would like to see come to life in the comments section of this blog-post by October 15th. If your request is chosen, I'll send you the original inked drawing and post the finished color piece with your character description when it's completed.

Please keep the request as PG-13 as possible.

I'm excited about this experiment in "character"and to hear what you all have up your sleeves.

So drop a line & cast your vote while you can.

First up is INK PLOTS! A sequential exhibition at The School of Visual Arts. Curated by Marshall Arisman & Thomas Woodruff.

Original pages from PIGEONS FROM HELL & FLUORESCENT BLACK will be on display. The catalog for the show will also feature selections from FLUORESCENT BLACK. There are some INSANELY talented artists in this exhibition so it's one not to miss and an honor to be a part of it.

HEROES CON!... C U THERE

With much anticipation and glee - I'll finally be attending HEROES CON this year / next week so if you are around or plan on attending or know someone who is pass it along. Prints, Art & Drawing will abound. I try to post prices, location and all that jazz before next week flies by. I'll have a ton of sketch books and previous works on hand so bring your copies or get them from me at the event.

As for the last post - The trip to NY was great and a well needed mini vacation. A very fruitful trip and REALLY excited about what I can't talk about that's coming down the pipe as the summer and fall roll on, but stay tuned. The image above is a painting I'll be auctioning off very soon on ebay. It's Mr. NoName from FLUORESCENT BLACK and will be sold/ending auction the last day of SDCC. In a fit of inspiration and to commemorate "The End" of F.B. & Mr. NoName (one of my favorite characters from the series) I give you the above painting. Gonna miss that crazy b@$tard.

SEATTLE WAS A BLAST!!!...

Just got back from the con and back to work this week.

ECCC was a blast and I wanted to drop a big thanks to everyone there.

Posted above are a few selections from commissions and sketches. Drew my first Cassy Hack and Fluorescent Black commission requests above as well. Hope to get copies to color at some point. A big shout out to Matthew Southworth of STUMPTOWN (amazing book, killer artist and story teller), Nathan Edmondson (Olympus and the upcoming THE LIGHT), Chuck at Comics-Evolution and Paolo at Cadence Comic Art. It was a great show due largely to their efforts and hospitality, so - tip O the hat! - many times over.

Other events that blew my mind - Writers make formidable air hockey opponents, Ink bottles DO really jump off tables, the healthy lunch line is always shorter, and I had the honor of meeting a lot of talented artists and writers and met a handful of editors that I had only read about in the funny papers.

This con was exactly what I had hoped every con would be. COMICS, COMICS, COMICS and laid back, at that. All the best to those there and I hope to make it back again soon. Great show.

Excited for the trip and have always wanted to visit the city...

I'm Finally making it out to EMERALD CITY COMIC CON this coming weekend with the rest of the CADENCE COMIC ART guys. I'll have a bunch of prints, original art, books and the like on-hand if you are in the neighborhood or can make the trip there. I'll also be taking commissions (quick sketches, half and full page pencil/ink drawings) during the con and pimping current and future work. Offered exclusively for ECCC this year is my first ever DEADPOOL print and drawing. I'll be bringing the original inks to sell and the print will only be available at the con through the CADENCE COMIC ART / COMIC EVOLUTION booth #114.

Mr. Falco, thank you for this little ditty.

I have a great love/hate relationship with advertising and this video to share.

Logos, the graphic design of it all, Mascots, branding, marketing, PMS colors, the cigarettes and liquid lunches, I remember and cherish it all as a kid, student and now consumer and seller of things that don't exist. Interning back in the day and dreaming about becoming a Don Draper, like I imagined my old man must have been before Don Draper was Don Draper. The Ad world in all of its glory, fame and vampirism. It's an amazing power that inevitably comes with an inherent evil created by that power. I admired it as a kid and as an illustrator I silently chuckle to myself every time I utilize it - My "Jekyll & Hyde" moments.

Now as a father is scares the living shit out of me. Leaving a somehow uncomfortably acceptable metallic flavor in my mouth - the Awe and Horror of it all. Needless to say I am sure I will be passing down these sick and twisted and giddy attributes to my daughters....

The raw might of selling Joe Shmo something he never needed, intended to buy or would better his life with by acquiring! Good or bad, it always leaves me speechless.

But what about the other side of things? Is there not a price to pay for such power? An alternate reality created by such twisted creations and abuses of the nature of consumption?

I have always wondered what it would be like to witness Ronald go insane. The Michelin Man - was he a gambler or a ladies man? These icons I looked up to and dreamed of consuming products from (I was the kid who walked around with a star wars case of action figures but wore a shirt that had a tiger on it that screamed "THEYYYYYYY'RE GREAT!"). What would their world be like if that world existed?

Maybe it was just all those years of flipping burgers and slaving over drive-thru windows, the mind tends to wander if you've never experienced such professions. Stocking shelves and now ordering from Amazon for necessities and baby supplies online, I stare at these boxes and wastes and wonder again at what it must be like to live in a world of advertising.

Times like that can twist a man and his imagination. A lifetime of such exposure can twist the creative sole...

And to those soles who created this piece, thank you. I am sure I have spent more time nostalgically dreaming of times past, memories long forgotten and products bought sold and traded. But then... isn't that the point?

Enjoy, as I did. I'll let the characters or our lives say the rest...

I am left speechless in trying to explain any of this so I'll be brief and completely random. Leaving it to you, viewer, to experience it for yourself...

One of my favorite artists to date and an amazing story teller in his own right, Ben's illustrations and now his publishing work continues to blow my mind (...with uzis, street corner love, raw emotion and all that embodies good, wholesome violent fun), NIGHT BUSINESS & GANGSTA RAP POSSE have got to be some of the best hidden comic book gems of the last two years.

The new issue of New York Magazine is out today with a cover story taken from the new book GAME CHANGE. Focusing on an excerpt about the John Edwards scandal & events that occurred during the 2008 election and to some extent are still developing as we speak.

...and I'm glad its done and made it to print.

It was a challenge and a pleasure and frustrating as hell to take this on.

Hopefully the images remain objective and open to the truths they were drawn from.

To that end I raise my coffee mug, gritting my teeth and toast to simply say,... "To better days ahead for accountable and honest politicians. May the fairy tale we dream of come true. CHEERS!"

Don't know why, but still can't believe I got to do this piece.

I had way too much fun with the details and collaborating with Trip Emmerson, the art director who has redesigned the magazine back to life. It was a pleasure and a treat.

Home from Holiday and back to work.

Piece above is out today in the NYTimes OPINION section. Great column. Beautiful landscapes for such a struggling and unrecognized state. Or at least beautiful pictures of the landscapes, shorline and makeshift towns and buildings I found during research. Can only imagine what it's really like there.

The columnist was passionate in the article about the life and struggle there and the art director wanted to reflect it in the piece, almost like an on-location romanticism of what piracy life and the landscape might look like. So my approach hoped to combine it all with the fishermen's boats on the beach, a mysterious beach location with possible pirates watching from the shoreline and a roaring armed caravan headed to distant buildings.

I really enjoyed the on-location quick sketch of this one but wanted to see what it would look like with some tone for drama and setting so I did the second version. It didn't make it to press but happy with the drawing standing on its own as well.

Call for Entries poster for THE ONE SHOW's 2010 competition. Where the best and brightest of advertising and hollywood meet to celebrate innovation and trailblazers of the industry. This is a HUGE award competition and show in the ad world so it was no small honor to be chosen to do the poster. Got to collaborate with the agency 72andSunny for this project. They came to me with an idea of car crashing Hollywood Blvd. with Maddison Ave. somehow and I filled in the rest of the blanks. It was a great, fast gig and proud of the final result. Can't wait to see it in print.

Hopefully the end was/is worth the wait... or so I hope you dig it to be so.

Dark Reign: ZODIAC finally comes to a close in October.

I know, I know... a little, little bit late but done with pride and joy none the less. I take full responsibility.

Regretfully it took a bit longer than hoped to get it out there but life is life and peoples is peoples. SH*T happens and Mr. Mom'n it again is awesome but WHOH! what a professional adjustment the second time round...

Anyway, all truth-in-jest aside, it is with a heavy heart and sad but happy droopy puppy eyes - and a lot of ink and bristol (original pages for sale at CADENCECOMICART.COM) - moment that I say goodbye to my mischief man and his stone cold kick ass girl... for now.

If you enjoyed this series as much as I did please let my frustrated but proud, and rightfully so, editors and Mr. Casey know. I have to admit, I never was a superhero man when I got into comics but Joes Script and this series was one of the most enjoyable projects I have ever worked on to date. Really proud of this issue and the series as a whole.

If you haven't checked it out, please peep it when you get a chance or stay tuned to a local shop near you this winter for the collected version. Hopefully with extra tidbits and goodies to make the addition to anyones bookshelf well worth the investment.

All the best and thanks again to those with the kind and harsh words who dished out a good chunk of change for these bad boys. Much appreaciated.

Hey there. Amp'n up the final preparations in the wee hours of the night for San Diego Comic Con and Chicago Comic Con to follow. As you may or many not know, the B&W book just hit and the copies I'll be pawning at the con's should arrive any hour. Aside from the new book I'll be doing signing at Heavy Metal Magazine and Dark Horse Booths. Possibly Marvel, but that's a long shot so check your program and schedules when you get there if you are into that kind of thing. For both Con's I will be in artist's alley as well, pawning the wares, prints, commissions, doodles, books and other bits and bobbles. If you dig skateboards and drawing on them, bring them by. I'll have sharpies and the like so hit me up and bring your wallet. Specifically for SDCC, over at the Heavy Metal Booth, we'll have exclusive prints, of which you see here. limited to 250 each. Signed by all 3 of us at the con and if you pick one up Eastman might just sign it as well. Oh, and I also forgot to mention, the kids over at COLOR INK BOOK were awesome enough to give me one of the 5 exclusive covers they are producing for their own SDCC editon of the zine. I submiteed a ton of black and white work there as well that WON'T be in my B&W book, so if you want to peep it, swing on by there as well. DARK REIGN: ZODIAC...

Dark Reign: ZODAIC finally kicks off and issue #1 hits shelves this month and the good people at Marvel were gracious enough to let me post a few panels. This is my first Marvel gig and collaboration with Joe Casey and FINALLY working on a book with the tallented Jose Villarubia (Who did an awesome job on the HACK/SLASH cover that should hit this fall... so keep an eye out.) I have been fans of both of their works for some time, being as slow and uneducated in mainstream comics as I am, more so not knowing who they were or the full breadth of their work at the time. All I knew was that I had read something amazing.

Ironically enough, I met both of them in artist's alley at SDCC last year and was blown away and in awe. I have happily caught up on their past works and this series is the first of many collaborations to come (wink wink, nudge nudge). The honor is all mine and hopefully the enjoyment will be all yours.

ZODIAC is a brand new OBABG (Original Bad Ass Bad Guy) to the Marvel World. No apologies. No faults. No second guesses or empathy. FINALLY, a man who loves his job and isn't ashamed of who he is or what it takes to do the job right...

HOpefully I do his debut and the script justice. So check it out if you fancy a wild no-holds-barred bad guy story with all the frills and no artificial punches pulled. This is all pure intent! Someone will die, A hero will get the ever loving shit kicked out of him, Thousands will be traumatized, displaced and mamed and one man, oh yes, one man will be forcefully humbled to his core and powerless to do anything about it (plus there's some sexy ladies, gadgets, ships, and tattoos all the while!...)

10 YEARS!... MACHISMO'S RAGING BULL

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BOYS!

April 2nd, 1999. 4 Artist's boxed in what we'll call "5 Rounds" of a boxing match while an excited mob chanted for their blood till there was one left standing... Victorious.

Many of us - Hairy. All of us - Out of shape, sleep deprived and hung over from 2 weeks of all day and night drinking, wheat pasting posters, building the set and 12' x 12' boxing ring, stools, frames for artwork, lighting, hanging and more drinking.

It was one night of awesome awesomeness that will forever go down in the history books of Sportsmanship. Truckers, Hookers, Professionals, Students, Art Critic's Lackey's and those just look'n for a kill'n were on hand. It was truly one of the most diverse events I have ever witnessed. We all had corner men/women, fans, Porn Names and an official ref (thank you Chris!). Chaos was to be had. No doubt.

I just wanted to post this for whomever and to raise my glass (now parental coffee mug - still too early to drink before 4...) and toast Stephen Hobson, Corey Goering, Mike Erikson and the old school Dirt Gallery Crew and the rest of you crazies that were there to see us beat the crap out of each other in horrible fashion..

MACHISMO still exists and I'm sure it will raise its awesomely awesome head in the future yet again some day. But until then... here is to that one night, 4 men and a stupid crazy AWESOME event that I'm sure, for those that were lucky enough to witness it, will ever forget.

PLANET COMIC CON was all for the LADIES!!!...

Had a great time at PLANET COMIC CON here in KC this weekend. Big table and nice crowd. All the local talent came out and then some. I busted my chops on a panel for the first time and did a lot of sketches and doodles. Many thanks to the patrons! But what struck me the most and I adore for the request... was the ladies. Classy Girls, Tight Leather and blood loving violent femmes. It was all awesome and I had a great time. Hope the owners dig the results. I still have a few to finish post con, so stay tuned. I missed taking photos of the HawkMan and HawkWoman pinup I did as well as most of the quick sketches. But here are the best of the ladies I caught on camera before the day was done.

As for any current news, there are a few new pieces in ROLLINGSTONE and ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY magazines. KING, RIDES, ESPN and others to come soon.

Part of Store 101 in Gainsville and the dual color stylings of myself and 101's very own KYLE CROSS. The original drawing was a contribution to Rob Worley's "13 faces of Jason" at mania.com. A visual daily countdown this month by 13 awesome comic book artists. You can take a peek at the whole collection on the site.

Ever since I stumbled into my gradfathers trailer home office bathroom - amongst the shag, phallic shoe polisher and framed centerfolds (at the tender age of 5 or so...) I have dreamed of working for playboy. In the current Feb. 2009 issue that boy got his dream. I sincerely hope it is the first of many and will be forever grateful for the opportunity. The fiction piece is well worth the time as well for those who actually read the mag. Yuko and Frank both have work in there as well as many other awesome color slingers, telling stories out of school (or trailer homes, however you see it unfolding...).

Happy Horror Holidays! I just found out that DARK HORSE COMICS has upped its release date for the PIGEONS FROM HELL TPB. I can't tell you how excited and proud I am to be part of this project and wanted to spread the word and pimp the book as much as possible.

We tossed a ton of extra's into it and I've created some more original art for the design and interiors. Guest artist pinups by Jim Mahfood, Guy Davis, Tomer Hanuka, Greg Ruth and many others are worth the price of admission alone aside from the Killer story you may or may not already be familiar with. It is an honor and a dream to participate in this charity gallery show. FASTER PUSSYCAT KILL KILL!!! is one of my all time favorite movies and a huge inspiration. Largely due to TURA SATANA and the gorgeous cult/go-go/crazy sexy icon she became and will always be. Wrangled/Arranged and coordinated by the god-like and talented Mitch O'Connell, this show is likely to go down in history as one of the most badass shows in history. Many thanks to Mitch for the invite, I am forever grateful. Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend, so I am counting on you dear reader/blogger to witness this even and report your findings. Located at 4443 N. Broadway in Chicago presents along with Pabst Blue Ribbon

Tura was born in Japan but when still a young child after WW II moved with her parents (and grew up) in our windy city, first setting up residence on the west side of Chicago at 911 South Ada St.. She attended Jacob A. Riis Elementary School and soon learned to sing and play piano. At 7 she sold newspapers at the corner of State and Van Buren where many of her customers were the dancers from Minsky's Theatre. She went out on her own leaving McKinley High School and home at 13. Tura lived briefly in L.A. performing as a singer dancer at the Tropicana Club, but came back to Chicago in early '54 setting up on the North Side on Ainslie Avenue working as a 21 dice girl. Her next job was as a Spanish dancer at the Rendevouz Club in Calumet City. Soon after, she became an stripper in the late '54 and started her burlesque career as an exotic dancing sensation earning the title "Miss Japan Beautiful. In Chicago Tura worked at the Brass Rail in '57-'58 and the Follies Theatre off and on from 1956 through 1964. Of course she toured and became famous all over the country.

Her talents lead her to guest appearances on many top television shows of the 60's including Hawaiian Eye, Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Burkes Law. Movie roles followed in Our Man Flint, Irma la Douce and The Astro Zombies, but her greatest cinematic superstar achievement was as the baddest ass Varla, the leader of 3 thrill seeking stripers in Russ Meyer's legendary masterpiece,"Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!". John Waters (Hairspray) called it "beyond a doubt, the best movie ever made. It is possibly better than any film that will be made in the future!"

Gallery owner Paul Collurafici (and owner of the adjacent Tattoo Factory) is kindly donating the space and will not be taking a commission, so all profits earned hosting the event will go to Apna Ghar, a domestic violence shelter serving primarily Asian women and children and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a breast cancer charity. Fundraisers will include selling show posters, personal donated Tura items and 20% of the money made through sales of the art.

More excitement (as if you needed it) includes- DJing by the incredible Joe Black's Midnight Spookshow! Performances by the amazing Chicago burlesque troupe The Flaming Dames! Fire-breathers! Searchlights! Lot's of PBR beer!

And the best part?

The drop-you-dead gorgeous Tura Satana WILL BE THERE IN PERSON!

An Exhibit of Creative KC PROFESSIONALS opens FRIDAY, OCT. 3RD at the PITCH ART SPACE here in Kansas City, Missouri. I am one of six amazing artist's and working professionals in the show. We are all customizing a 10" MAD figure, A PITCH newspaper box/stand, a 36" x 36" Canvas as well as a live painting during the "one-night-only" event. GUERILLAS and TOM WAITS LIVE!!!

Frist off I would like to introduce and recommend Brahm Revel & GUERILLAS to anyone who is unfamiliar with his work. I have been a fan of Brahm's work for a long while and had the good fortune of finally meeting him in person at the NYComicCon. The Structure and pacing is intense and addictive from the get go. Chimps, Guns and Self realization... you can't go wrong. But aside from that the story alone is worth the read. Can't wait for issue 2. Each issue is 50+ pages so your money is well spent and the art is worth every penny. IMAGE did a bang up job on the printing quality as well so check it out. You can find out more about Brahm and his work on his website and at Lambiek.com. More interveiws and review will be out soon, I am sure, so keep your eyes peeled!

And Second, TOM WAITS. A big musical influence since college. I have never had the good fortune of seeing him live and in person, but there is an entire 2 hour concert online for anyone who's interested. NPR recorded GLITTER AND DOOM this past July in Atlanta and posted a live stream on their website. I just ran across it so spread'n the stories and voice. Enjoy

BIG SPLASH is finally out on book shelves through HNA/Amulet books. So run out and grab a copy at your earliest convenience. I did the wrap-around jacket and cover art for the book last year and am excited to finally get my hands on it. You can peep its evolution from start to finish on Chad Beckerman's Blog (Book/Jacket Designer). Collaborating with Chad was amazing and hopefully the first of many.

There is also a BIG SPLASH website showcasing the cover art (free squirt gun while supplies last...), info on the author and some fun links to tickle your fancy. The book, even though it is a teen-reader, is a great read, so kids of all ages - drop by the site or browse a copy today.

Hey Monkey Fans! Just finished this piece for "KING KONG SOLIDARY", an exhibition on the 75th anniversary of KING KONG to raise money and awareness for Doctors Without Borders. Original arworks will be exhibited during the Sitges International Film Festival (October 2 - 12th) in Spain and auctioned off on ebay for the benefit. Hey Guys. Just got back from the San Diego Comic Con and wanted to post the variant cover I did for the Comic Con copies of the September issue of Heavy Metal Magazine. I think I caught Jeromy Cox (colorist for the book, DMZ, Amazing spiderman, Vampirates and others) off guard with the amount of detail and characters I put in the cover but he went well above and beyond anything I could ahve ever imagined or been able to excucute on my own. Signing at the HM booth was crazy. Kevin Eastman was beyond supportive and an all around bad-ass guy and could not have been more gracious. We worked the crowd up to frenzy with tshirt tossing, stickers and so on. I even nailed a guy in the head by accident when I tossed a shirt out and said heads up. (If you read this head-nailed-guy my sincerest appologies). Many thanks to SquareTV, Pulp Secret, Comixology and especially TheComicCollective.com for all their excitement and coverage online before the project even saw light of day. And a great big HELL-YEAH! thanks to Imagi for taking a chance on this project from the get go. Balls bady! BIG BIG BALLS! Thanks you Galen, Doug, Francis and Sharon!!!

It has been a pleasure working with Darren Firth in the past of WIWP and I am beyond honored to be part of his current project NOW SHOWING. I've teamed up with Designer and all around bad-ass Alex Trochut for the design and type of the poster we did for FASTER PUSSYCAT KILL! KILL!, one of my all time favorite cult movies. PRINTS are available and limited of all works from the show through COSH Gallery in London. My FPKK poster is a limited edition of 25 prints at 100cm x 70cm each (27.56" x 39.37"... Its the biggest print in the show (tee-hee)).

Welp, the time is just about here for Issue #1 of PIGEONS FROM HELL for DARK HORES COMICS.
Adapted from the original ROBERT E. HOWARD short story of the same name by JOE LANSDALE. Colors by DAVE STEWART.
PIGEONS hits stands APRIL 16th, 2008 I belive. 2 Days before the NY Comic Con and if anyone is in the neighborhood for the Comic Con, I'll be there signing and peddling my wares at the DARK HORSE booth. Not sure what time is scheduled yet but as soon as I do, I'll post it and spread the word.

BLACK AND WHITE IMAGE UPDATE...
I keep forgetting to post these and wanted to drop a line.
Two black and white images out there.
The first is a double issue pinup for BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL issues 129 and 130. Just made it in time before the single issues became no more. The inside-back cover of both issues stack on top of one another to make the finished image.
Also out there recently is the weird geisha image for GRAFUCK volume 3. Happy to contribute once again to this most amazing collection of artists and designers on sex and other "unmentionables"

If you tuned in last night you might have caught the good "Captain Flourish" from Chamber Six's Comic SUPERWIVES (color by Dave Stewart!) on the TV show "NUMB3RS". He wasn't in there long but made an appears a few times in the background and next to what looked like a screaming viking, but much like the center of a Tootsie-Roll-Pop... "the world may never know." Guy Davis' Buddy Manchet made an appearance as well. All characters the brainstorm of the up and coming slaughterhouse of a writer - Adrian A. Cruz and Chamber Six. If you like what you see on the site, please drop them a line and let them know and if you REALLY REALLY like what you see, run down to your nearest favorite comics publisher and demand that they pick up a title or two from CHAMBER SIX! Ha.

The other book I am working on is still under wraps but I can tell you a where it will be at least, so here goes. I am working on a mini-series for Dark Horse Comics. Issue #1 due out next APril. The first issue is wrapped up inks wise and just finished the first cover. Honored to say one of my favorite colorist's is working on it with me so I truly hope this turns out to be a lot of fun. As soon as I can divulge more or a press release goes out I'll drop it your way. But until then, I'll be hacking away at "Pigeons" (Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink...)

Been too long...

Welp folks, Its been way too long. There has been a ton of developments since April, but you'll have to catch up with me later on the past. For now, here are a few things of recent. I'll try and be better about it all as it goes in the future.
For starters I am working on 2 comic books at present and a few other projects here and there. Top secret stuff for a while I am afraid, but the moment I get a chance to post something it will go up. REALLY excited to be working on my first comic book series. To drop a hint at one of them cuz all I can do it describe it by contract... I am working on a miniseries for Dark Horse called Pigeons From Hell. Its a Robert E. Howard short story that is being adapted by the amazing Joe K. Lansdale.
As for editorial work you can peep the images below for samples and descriptions. I'll try and update my site as well soon.
A ton of work to sell on the new site as well as A LOT of comic book work including selections of cult film illustrations and comic pages I did for Turner Classic MOvies online website for their Series Underground. I think the last post was about it as well for more info and to see it all, check out http://www.tcmunderground.com. A lot of other amazing artists as well up there and from what I hear more to come this fall and into next year.
Gallery wise, I had the fortune to show with a tallented friend this past summer, Mr. Paul Chatem. The title of the show was TRAINWRECK and we both started on opposite sides of the gallery space and piece by piece, car by car crashed our two trains into each other. Currently I had a piece in a ninja show in LA and just shipped of a new piece that is the opener for this crazy post for the High Fuctose show at Gallery 1988 called "Bitters and Sweets" I believe.

whelp, we're not in Merriam, KS anymore due to the scary rental when we arrived, but we are finally back in Kansas City. Good to be back again. Teaching full time at the Art Institute in the Foundations dept and broadcasting from a new studio. Still not unpacked but up and settled none the less.

New illo out in SPIN at the end of October so keep your eyes peeled. Other works coming down the pipeline include a book on "How to Survive a Horror Movie", a new Pin-Up series for INSTANT WINNER and a future show with Paul Chatem at the COPRA NASON gallery in June of 2007.

Here is a preview of the new website design. Hope you dig it. The site will be in FANTASTICAL 3D! Glasses will be available for purchase with a few goodies included if you don't have a pair handy. So stay tuned. More updates to come. As for new work, the first web-comic episode of SUPERWIVES is complete and off to the colorist and letterer. Dave Stewart of Hell Boy and BPRD, among others, is rockin the color work and Sean Konot is kickin the type. This is going to be one amazing dark comedy. Keep checking http://www.chambersix.com for updates. Episode 2 is layed out and on the slab soon. No new illo work to speak of as the two books are in the works. Wrapping up a portrait of Scott Scheidly for a future book and exhibition with WIWP. Other than that, I guess it would be about time to say we are moving yet again... Back to Kansas City. Kansas City here we come... I will be teaching full time in the foundations department this coming fall semester and pretty excited to be back at the old school I so desperately hated and loved at the same time and to be back in the old hood with friends and family. So, next time I write, hopefully it will be on the new website as sampled above and from our new digs in Merriam, Kansas (Kansas City). Take care and yell at you soon.

Well, It's been a while...

Well, it HAS been quite some time. My apologies for any recent site issues and lack of updating. As you can see, I finally got some form of "News" up with this blog thingy and will hopefully start updating as much as I can as fast as I can in the near future. I would like to thank Yuko for the slap/wake up call to get my as in gear. The new site has been under way for quite some time now and is kickin in all it's 3D glory, but has been put on hold for a few month due to work and much craziness on my part. As soon as I get a bunch of stuff finished I will be back on the case and hopefully have a new site up and this one gone by the fall if not sooner. So here's to keeping my fingers crossed!...
A lot has been going on so lets get to it. First off, there are a bunch of new illo's out and about this month and next. Rolling Stone, SWINDLE, Mother Jones and The DEAL Magazines.

On the Gallery front, I have a bunch of work in the Receiver Galleries "Guest Artist Show", now in Seattle. The show will travel back to Receiver Headquarters and their new digs soon and future cities and the date of exhibition will be posted soon. So if you are in the area or know a loved or feared one that is, please pass along the good news.

It always amazes me where I run into your illustration work. There are
countless times where I come across something at the newstand, but this
took the fuckin' cake.
I went to my grandmothers 90th birthday party in my home town. It was a
small affair in the fellowship hall of the kingman united methodist
church. Gen and I stepped into a deserted sunday school classroom to
fix evey's hair and change olivers clothes and diaper. I look up at the
bulletin board to see a collage of newspaper and magazine clippings, that
has been pinned up to illustrate the world that we live in, and guess who
made the cut. It seems that you have touched the life of at least one
sunday schooler in kingman kansas. I pondered the fact, that the same
artist that created big pussy and a number of other twisted endeavors,
finally made it into the house of the lord, in rural america.
Congratulations, you have peaked and your career goes downhill from here.

THE 7 DEADLY SINS... via "Stunt Wood"!!!

After 6 months these suckers are finally finished and shipped for production. Consider this a sneak peak, a first look at the new series through Instant Winner Skateboards www.theinstantwinner.com
A lot of work went into them and I hope the word and sales spread like wild fire. We were fortunate enough to find a calligrapher and very tallented illustrator, Ai Tatebayashi www.miniai.com, to execute the amazine brushwork translations for each deck in Japanese through a good friend and tallented illustrator herself, Yuko Shimizu www.yukoart.com. If you have a moment, please check out their websites and work, you will not be disappointed. Some other news to report: a few more illustrations in the works to be updated soon and beginning work on a Hardboiled/LA Story Comic Book this month that will be sure to please and leave you wanting more.
So, once again, please leave any communications you wish and I'll yell at you later. So far, no one has responded, so I am just yelling at myself, but.... here is to wishfull thinking.

The Avian Flu and 7 Sins...

Hey All!
Well, this is the first in what I hope is many blog entries. So spread the word and lets get ta' typing!

As the pic's above would have it, a few new projects are in the works and on paper. Today's NYTimes Magazine has a few new illustrations on the Avian Flu Resurrection and sordid history. Also in the works are 7 new boards for Instant Winner (www.theinstantwinner.com) which will hopefully be hitting the shelves this spring in all their translated glory. The pic are the base inks for the final color versions. 7 seperate decks and a whole lot of monsters in hell comin at cha. Not much else to report other than that. I had hoped to get this out by the first of the year but am behind on a many many things, but STAY TUNED! for a whole new website, content and comics over the next few months. Any and all comments, criticisms and what have you are welcome, so type away and as always....
